Disorganized Thoughts of a New Traditional Mom

Jasmine Black

Welcome to Disorganized Thoughts of a New Traditional Mom, a space for real talk about faith, parenting, & what it means to build a nontraditional family in today’s world.

I’m Jasmine, a single mom, Barbie collector, music lover, and Jesus follower figuring out this thing called life (with coffee and grace).

I started this podcast because I realized parenting doesn’t come with a handbook, especially when your story doesn’t fit the mold. Some days I’m thriving, other days I’m drinking three hour old, cold coffee because I couldn’t make it to the microwave. But every day God grants me grace

Episode

This episode is part of Podcasthon, a global movement where podcasters dedicate an episode to highlighting nonprofits making a difference in their communities.

As a former foster mom, this conversation is deeply personal.

In Part 1, I sit down with Christine Roberts from A World For Children to talk about the realities of foster care in Texas and the heart behind the work they do.

We talk about:

What foster care really looks like in Texas

Common misconceptions about foster care

The challenges children entering care are facing

How A World for Children prepares and supports foster families

This conversation is about understanding the need, the system, and the people behind it.

If you’ve ever wondered what foster care actually looks like beyond headlines, this is a powerful place to start.

🎙️ Stay tuned for Part 2, where we shift into how we can all show up and support.

The charity and its cause

A World for Children

"Changing the world...one child at a time." These words aren’t just our motto; these are the words our staff and foster parents live by. Every minute of every day, Texas children fall victim at the hands of their parents. They are abused, neglected, and mistreated in ways that the general public cannot begin to imagine. The children enter the doors of A World For Children foster homes with terror, uncertainty, physical scars, and emotional trauma. A World For Children’s foster parents, along with the 24-hour support of A World For Children’s staff, spend every day changing uncertainty into undying stability, mending physical injuries, and providing in-depth treatment for emotional trauma.
