How do we free ourselves from social conditions, misinformation, bigotry, and stereotypes?

What are the tools we need for success?

What issues do we face that drag us down?

How do we reclaim our happiness?

How can we spread love and kindness?

What is our true path, and does it even exist?

Who am I? Where am I going? What is holding me back?

How do we reclaim our true selves?

Let’s face it: Life is hard. We get lost in the activities and stresses of daily life. We forget ourselves in the process of trying to “fit in.” Our need to be accepted can push us off our path and shape us in ways we didn’t intend. Sooner or later, we all wake up to the fact that we don’t know who we really are. Some of us take up the work of finding our way back home. Some of us don’t.

This is a community of searchers. We are looking for our authentic selves, and we discuss the things that try to take individuality and identity from us. These things can be small and subtle, building up over time, or they can be unapologetically huge and devastating. We look at all of them.

These are just some of the topics our host, Juliana Jay, moves through and examines in this podcast.

Episode

This week on the I Care About You podcast, host Juliana Jay welcomes the incredible Rosemerry Wahtola Trommer—poet, teacher, speaker, writing facilitator, and poet laureate of Evermore. Her work has been featured on A Prairie Home Companion, PBS NewsHour, O Magazine, American Life in Poetry, The Washington Post’s Book Club, and even the stage of Carnegie Hall. Her newest book, The Unfolding, is a powerful exploration of grief, resilience, and love.

In this episode, Rosemerry shares the deeply personal journey of navigating life after the loss of her son, who completed suicide at 17. Through poetry, she found a way to meet grief, live with it, and continue loving through it. The Unfolding is a testament to the healing power of words and an intimate look at the process of working through immeasurable loss.

Together, we discuss her experience, the lessons she’s learned about herself, and how writing became a lifeline. Rosemerry also shares insights and practical tips on using poetry and creative expression as tools for healing.
