Episode

“How Things Were… to How Things Are”

‘Old Skool Movements Podcast’ presents a ‘Podcasthon Special’ in support of ‘Lives Not Knives’

Back in the day, if you had a problem with someone at school, you’d probably settle it with a quick scrap behind the bike sheds, a game of “next goal wins” on the football pitch or a winner-takes-all match on Street Fighter II at the arcade. The beef was settled, and by the next day, you were best mates again.

But times have changed, and so has the way young people handle conflicts.

In this episode, we’ll dive into how beef was handled when we were kids against the harsh realities that today’s youth face with the rise of local crime, social media pressures, and a culture where carrying weapons has sadly become the norm for some.

We look back on old-school playground justice, the unwritten rules of respect, and how things have spiralled into something far more dangerous in modern times. We’ll shine a light on the incredible work of ‘Lives Not Knives’, sharing their mission and how you can help support their cause.

Can we help change the mindset of young people today?

Let’s talk about it.

Lives Not Knives

Lives Not Knives is an innovative, award winning, youth-led charity that works to prevent knife crime, serious youth violence and school exclusions by engaging, educating and empowering disadvantaged young people and supporting them to enjoy their lives and improve their future prospects. We offer a unique strategy that centres around personal one-to-one mentoring with 9-14 year olds, educational school roadshows, a fun after school club and a free summer programme of activities so that all the young people we work with can overcome adversity and transform their lives.
